Can you play psp games on PS3 without owning psp?

Unfortunately no, you cannot. There are a select few games that can be played on both the PS3 and the PSP, but those are downloadable from the Playstation store online. Sadly, if you want to play that game you’re either going to have to wait for a rom and a decent emulator to come out, or buy the PSP. Or beat up the kid down the street and steal his PSP.

Nope, I don’t even think you can do that but I do know you can play your PS3 with your PSP.

I’m quite certain it is not possible because the format of the PSP disc is different to the PS3 disc. My son has both game consoles and so I have to buy the games for him. Hope this answers your question. Check for your game on PS3 though.
