do i need a nintendo ds game card to allow use of the nintendo ds lite?

I have a DS Lite. As far as i know, you must buy game cards to play games with it. Also, the bottom slot holds Gameboy Advanced cartridges, so you have many games to choose from, both DS Lite and Gameboy Advanced.
