You can only play games that are designed for a specefic console. For example:
-Xbox 360 games will ONLY work in a Xbox 360.
-Playstation 3 games will ONLY work in a Playstation 3.
-Wii games will ONLY work in a Wii.
The reason behind this is simply that each console is different, and that certain publishers are paid in order to make a game exclusive to one console, such as Mario for example.
it is not possable to play Wii games on it as it has diffrent hardware from the Wii but It is technically possible to play the old games on it but you would need to use the menu option to install other OS, it would require the Linux system to be installed on the PS3 and then an emulator to be installed on that. I have tried this on my PS3 and it ends up as a lot of work to even start a game this way (took about 5 hours to set up to start with and takes about 20 Min’s for it to get loaded) so its basically not worth the effort
