Is the Playstation 3 game Dirt compatible with Playstation 2?

No it wont, since its a ps3 game title, which mean it can only play in a Ps3, its like asking if i can play a ps2 game on a ps1!
Its better if you sell it and buy your son 2 ps2 games :)!!

Nope, sorry. All PlayStation 3 games are stored in a Blu-Ray Disc which can only be read on Blu-Ray Disc players. Unfortunately the PS2 does not come in with a Blu-Ray Disc Reader, so it won’t work. If it works on the PS2, everybody will not buy the PS3. PS3 games are exclusive to the PS3.
