I know exactly what you’re looking for, its also free. But do you have a flashcart or are you just going to use an emulator?
Addition:
If you want to download roms then play them on your DS you need a flashcart (if you don’t understand what I said give up now)
If you’re going to play them on your computer, give up. No matter how fast your computer is, it will never run a DS rom.

nds-roms dot com is a really good site that allows you to dl nds games. please bare in mind that it is illegal to dl games you do not own. it is legal to backup games you already have. so just be aware.

Okay then, hope you have some basic computer knowledge at the ready. =P
If you want to play DS games for free, you have to get ROM images.
These are complete files of the game in a file type called .NDS. (Nintendo DS)
To get ROMs, you could do a simple web search for “ds roms”, but this can usually damage your computer if you don’t browse safely.
I suggest getting the free McAfee SiteAdvisor for that.
One good site you could try is.
They have a section on the right-hand site under Handhelds for Nintendo DS ROMs, as well as many other ROMs.
Another,, if not the best, does have many up-to-date ROMs. However, they use a points service, which can be a little annoying, because those can take a while to get.
Now, you can choose to play these ROMs on your PC, which is called emulation.
You need to download a certain emulator for the system you want to play on your computer.
An emulator is a program that acts as a game system that can open the ROM files so you can play them on the PC.
A great site with a large selection of emulators is.
The only known working DS emulator so far, doubles surprisingly as a GameBoy Advance emulator as well.
It is called No$GBA, and can be downloaded from their website.
If you want to play DS games for free, as in basically getting free cartridges and playing them on your DS, you need to buy Flash linkers, which have USB cables which plug into your computer and transfer ROMs to your empty cartridge.
These usually come in kits and cost about the same as really big flash drives.
Here’s one site with such kits:
Considering how it’s not really suited for novices, unless you know your major emulation stuff, it’s not really worth it. ~_~
Also note that all this stuff would probably get you arrested in many places that aren’t Russia.
Or Alaska.
So do all this stuff at yer OWN RISK!
EDIT:
Well, it is illegal no matter how you make it, but you can stay low with it, I mean, it’s not likely that the Feds will bust your door down, saying “PUT YOUR HANDS UP, and SLOWLY PLACE THE HANDHELD ON THE GROUND.”
