Can you play playstation 2 games on a playstation 3?

if you got the 60 gb go for it if not dont bother but why get a ps3 then play ps2 games makes no sense.
why the heck dont you just try it your have ya answer then. some games work some games dont.
sounds like u got the 40gb wich so ive herd has no backwards capabilitys or is very limited. the 80gb can play more but is emulated and still not as good as 60gb 80gb is not available in the uk at the moment and there isnt any anything to suggest it will be soon next xmas no doubt it will be.

Some. Not the 40 GB though at all. The others are not all the way backward compatible yet. Check the Play Station website for the list of games.

20, 60, and 80gb models all play most PS2 games. The 80gb uses software emulation which means it won’t play as many as the 20, and 60, but still plays the majority of them.
The 40gb will NOT play PS2 games at all.

20GB: Yes, tho limited
40: None at all, just PS1 game compatibility.
60: Yes, FULL PS2/PS1 game support
80: Yes, tho limited as well

i think all ps2 games are ps3 compattible except guitar hero
as long as it s a dicc so any gig higher than 40g will play ps3 games i hope your husband has fun
