I heard that a regular Playstation 3 can’t play Playstation 2 games, but that you can buy certain PS3s that can. Is this true? And if so, where can I buy one and for how much?
The 60gb and discontinued 20gb can play most if not all PS2 games. The 80gb can play play like 80% of the PS2 games as it uses software not hardware to do so. The 40gb cannot play any PS3 games. All PS3’s can play PS1 games tho. The PS3’s price varies depending on where you live, but 80&60gb is $499.99 and 40gb is $399.99. You can buy them anywhere, Walmart, BestBuy, Costco, or online Amazon, Ebay, Dell (Dell.ca has great deals for Canadian shoppers!)

The 20gb and 60gb version have complete hardware compatibility. There may still be bugs, but these are your best bets for ps2 games.
The 80gb version dropped the ps2 cpu, but has the ps2 graphics chip and supports software emulation of the cpu. It supposedly can still play most ps2 games.
The 40gb version has no ps2 hardware and no software emulation either. It cannot play ps2 games. It can play ps1 games through software emulation if I’m not mistaken.
well the ps3 80 gb i own and it can play most of the ps2 games and i asked the gamestop owner and he told me that ps3 keeps updating their software if u can conncect it 2 the internet and one upgrade will play all ps2 games on a ps3 80gb idk about the 60 40 or 20 sorry about those
