Is it possible to play Playstation and Playstation 2 games on the Playstation 3?

Yeah you can. well ps2 games I know for sure and I’m pretty sure you can play ps1 games. I know you can download old ps1 games from the ps3 market place so I don’t see why they wouldn’t work.

You will be able to only play ps2 games on the ps3 if it is the 80gig. It wont work if you only get the 40gig

The 60gb PS3 will allow you to play PS1 and 2 games, but sony took the backward compatability out from the 40gb to save money.
So it depends on what one you have.

All PS3 versions play PS1 games. Only 20GB, 60GB and 80GB play PS2 games.

all PS3’s play PS1 games.
the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB play PS2 games.
the 40GB will never play PS2 games.
