PlayStation Home’s extremely restrictive text chat filter, which reportedly blocks everything from “hello” to “lesbian,” has earned the ire of some in the gay rights community.
Michael Marsh discovered the restrictions after trying to create a “gay/straight alliance club,” reports SFGate. Along with “lesbian,” the gay rights activist was unable to use “gay” or “bisexual” in describing his club.
“By blocking a word like ‘gay,’ which is a preferred term by the gay community, you’re encouraging it as a bad word,” explained Marsh. “I can understand if they’re filtering out profanity, but if feel like it’s discrimination.”

Though endorsed and branded by Olympic swimmer and 14-time gold medalist Michael Phelps, 505 Game’s as-yet-untitled Michael Phelps video games will be more than just swimming.
In fact, they’ll be “pure action,” according to 505 Games president Adam Kline. However, he refused to speak further on the matter, as the company is still investigating a few different solutions.
“We believe it’s the next Tiger Woods project…it could be here for the next 10 years,” he informed the Baltimore Sun, as noticed by Kotaku. “Swimming will be a part of it, but it won’t be set in an Olympic pool going back…
Thought Sony was quite clear that it would not cut the PlayStation 3’s price in 2008, Webdush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter expects that stance to change in 2009.
Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, the respected analyst predicted that Sony will drop the PlayStation 3’s price at the start of its next fiscal year, which kicks off in April.
At present, Sony sells two models of the PlayStation 3: a $399 80GB model, and a $499 unit that’s bundled with a 160GB hard dive and a copy of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
Rival Microsoft slashed prices for its Xbox 360 hardware back in September, and the Xbox 360 has siginficantly outsold the PlayStation 3 in the United States since. The cheapest model, the hard drive-less Arcade sells for $199, while the 60GB Pro go…
The second live-action Street Fighter adaptation is headed to theaters next year, and while Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was shot in English, this Japanese trailer represents the first glimpse of near-finished footage.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li hits theaters on February 27, 2009.
While the F.E.A.R. ports and expansions have introduced the shooter series to a number of gamers, Monolith’s Dave Matthews also credits the ancillary titles with “killing off a few” fans.
Since Monolith released the original shooter, TimeGate Studios has shipped two F.E.A.R. expansions: Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate. While Extraction Point earned fair reviews, 2007’s Perseus Mandate was universally panned.
“[TimeGate Studios] took the story in a direction that we didn’t intend,” said Matthews to CVG. “We look at Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate as an alternate universe, a ‘what could have been’, and because of that it doesn’t necessarily diminish the story that we were trying to tell.”
Though Day 1 Studios’ PlayStation 3 port of F.E.A.R. was slammed as a shoddy rendition, Monolith promises that the three versions of F.E.A.R. 2 (PC, 360, PS3) should be more similar to each o…
The late-to-the-party PC port of Saints Row 2 will use only Steam for its copy protection, according to a forum post by Volition community manager Singular.
“We’re trying to use a very low impact DRM here, since we’ve seen some of the headaches faced by other major game releases in recent months,” said the spokesperson.
Saints Row 2 PC will be available January 6 in stores and on Steam.
The developer of the open-world title also revealed the minimum and recommended requirements for the game, which can be found below:

It may not be quite as elaborate as some console
paint jobs, but if you’re looking to add a touch of Japan to your Xbox 360, you may want to follow the lead of deviantART member Ricepuppet, who has managed to create a relatively faithful Domo-kun themed console. As you can see above, that even includes a matching controller, which we presume is still fully functional (and, apparently, twice as likely to slip out of your hands). Just don’t go too nuts and decide to pair it with a
Hello Kitty-themed Wii, there’s no telling how they might get along.

A couple in Portsmouth, New Hampshire were arrested on Christmas Day when disappointment over the gifting of a Wii led to an open brawl.
Heath Blom, 26, only wanted a $1,000 RC airplane from his grandparents for Christmas. Denied his toy plane, he instead received a Wii console from his girlfriend Randi Young.
Clearly familiar with the Wii’s underwhelming 2008 software lineup, Young “disparaged the Wii, angering his girlfriend,” according to WCVB. The verbal argument soon turned to blows.
“She punched me in the eye,” said Blom. “She punched me three times. I said ‘That’s it.’ And I pulled her hair.”
“He dragged me down two flights…
This new concept art from Halo 3: ODST is probably less interesting without knowing the concept of the game.
Taking place during the events of Halo 2, the game will put players into the role of ODST recon trooper The Rookie, part of a five-man team dropped into New Mombasa. As things inevitably go wrong, and The Rookie discovers “crime scenes” at his teammates’ last known positions, the game will shift perspectives to one of the other four other troopers, telling each piece of the story in a flashback.
The standalone 360 release, estimated to provide 3-5 hours of gameplay for under $60, hits next fall.
