Samsung Bada phone to be announced first half of next year

We’re still not entirely sure why Samsung feels the need to launch its own mobile operating system while still cranking out Android and Windows Mobile devices, but it seems like things are going full steam ahead: a spokesperson told CNET Asia today that a Bada phone would arrive in the first half of 2010. Sure, that sounds like a long time off, but really it’s just six months after the big Bada SDK reveal in December, so we’ll have to see if that’s enough time for developers to sort things out and release any apps.

[Thanks, Siobhan]

Latest SixthSense demo features paper ‘laptop,’ camera gestures

We’ve already seen MIT researcher Pranav Mistry’s SixthSense projector-based augmented-reality system in some cool demos, but he just gave a TED talk and his latest ideas are the wildest yet. Forget simple projections, he’s moved on to taking photos by just making a box with your fingers, identifying books and products on store shelves and projecting reviews and other information on them, projecting flight schedules on boarding passes, and even a new paper “laptop” concept that works by using a microphone on the paper to sense when you’re touching it. It’s pretty amazing stuff — check out his whole talk at the read link.

NVIDIA’s Fermi-based GeForce 100 GPU makes a Twitter appearance

We’d been hearing that NVIDIA’s Fermi chips had been delayed, but they’re apparently far enough along for spokesperson Brian Burke to tweet this image of the new Fermi-based GeForce 100 GPU running the Unigine Heaven DX11 benchmark earlier today. That’s certainly one way to hit back at ATI’s launch of the fastest graphics card ever, the Radeon HD 5970, but we’d much rather have some hard info to work with. We’ve pinged NVIDIA, we’ll let you know if we hear anything.

[Thanks, Alex]

Zune HD 3D games video hands-on

It took us a tick to get our Zune HD loaded up with those new 3D games that were released this morning, but we thought you might want to check out a quick hands-on. That Tegra chip is no joke — the graphics in PGR: Ferrari Edition are easily on par with the PSP and quite possibly better, with intricate textures, high-quality reflections, and smooth framerates. The other games aren’t nearly as intense, but they’re just as smooth. Best of all? They’re free — although you will have to look at a Zune ad while they load. Not the worst tradeoff in the world, but we’d love to see what paid app developers could do if Microsoft would open this beast up. Check the video after the break.

Elusive Xbox 360 802.11n wireless adapter appears in the UK

Microsoft might be playing cat-and-mouse with the Xbox 360 802.11n adapter, but it looks like the jig is up in the UK — we just got this shot of it sitting on an ASDA store shelf. Still no word on Stateside availability, but surely we can’t all keep on like this forever, can we?

[Thanks, Daniel]

Latest iControlPad prototype bulks up, gets handled on video

It’s been a while since we last got an update from ZodTTD on his iControlPad iPhone controller accessory, but this latest prototype looks like it was worth the wait. The controls have been moved from the sides of the phone to a more comfortable-seeming bottom placement with dual analog sticks and rear-mounted triggers, and the whole thing’s gotten bigger and badder — there’s even an internal battery for charging your phone as you play. ZodTTD says actual shipping hardware is coming soon — just make sure you change that default root password if you decide to jailbreak and grab one, mkay?

P.S.- ZodTTD says another video featuring psx4iphone and a “pretty sweet Wipeout XL demo” is coming shortly on his YouTube channel, we’ll keep you updated.

Portable NES modded into a cartridge, hearts modded into love

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/nintendo/Portable_NES_modded_into_a_cartridge_hearts_modded_into_love’; We’ve seen NES mods that incorporate a screen and controls into a cartridge in the past, but this example from Airz in BenHeck’s forums is just so clean and well-polished that we had to give it some love. Inside Airz says it’s just a generic Chinese media player that can play NES, Gameboy, and Gameboy Color ROMs, along with the relevant controller bits, a 2.8-inch LCD, 4GB of storage, and a rechargeable battery. Oh, and if you’re feeling particularly retro, you can hook it up over TV-out and play on the big screen. Not bad — and it’s for sale if you’re as in love as we are. Video after the break.

PSP Go already discounted in the UK

Oop. So much for the PSP Go’s premium “aspirational” pricing — several UK retailers have already discounted Sony’s newest handheld to £199 ($319) after launch weekend. That’s not a massive drop from the £224 ($358) MSRP, but it’s still pretty notable, especially considering the PSP-3000 has an MSRP of £139 ($221). No wonder Sony thinks the Go will drive PSP-3000 purchases — too bad it couldn’t figure out a way to make the Go interesting enough to sell itself.

Sony says Nazi PS3 ad is a “mock campaign” and not real

We can’t say this was unexpected, but Sony just pinged us to say that that Nazi PS3 ad is “totally fake” and was made without their approval — here’s the statement from the executive president of BBDO Chile, which made the ads:

This creative design did not involve and was never approved by Sony Computer Entertainment or Sony. This “mock campaign” was developed by BBDO Chile staff and was submitted to various creative competitions/festivals without prior notification or approval from SCE/Sony, and it is not representative of the views or advertising policies of SCE/Sony. BBDO Chile apologizes for using this creative concept without authorization or prior approval, and for its misrepresentation of the PlayStation brand and its values.

Settles that, we suppose — although we’re guessing BBDO Chile isn’t going to be Sony’s agency of record very much longer.
